This past month a bitterly cold arctic airmass has been in place locking us in with temperatures in the mid to high minus teens through the mid to high minus twenties, keeping our daytime highs well below average. After I have done some analysis on the weather models and weather blogs there appears to be a improvement in store weather wise for the second week of March. According to The Weather Centre A ridge will develop out in the pacific ocean by March 1, 2015 but will be slowed as the trough out east prevents it from budging further east. This is what will allow for warmer weather to arrive here in Manitoba, this may or may not be true though.

The weekend ahead will be cold to start off as arctic air continues to influence the area, the good news though is that warmer air will arrive during Sunday and Monday with our temperatures hopefully warming into the minus single digits, that will be short lived another cold shot of arctic air will arrive by Tuesday and continue through to Thursday where high temperatures will be in the mid minus teens.

That will change though and this will likely be the last major coldsnap of the winter as the sun intensifies and we enter meteorological spring, a more sustained period of average to above average temperatures may arrive by the end of the first week to the second week of March as the ridge finally shifts eastwards. Don't forget that any low pressure system could make that change but we'll have to wait and see how things trend.

To summarize: -A cold start to the weekend

-Warmer weather Sunday through Monday

- Arctic Air returns for a period Tuesday until Friday

- A More sustained period of average to possible above average temperatures arrive by the first weekend of March or sometime during the second week of March. Not sure how long this will last.

My forecast latches onto the idea that the CFSV2 has in mind, "warmer weather". From the models indications the warm weather may last well into the end of March and possibly into April.
